Safeguarding your privacy in our psychology practice

The Code of Ethics of the Romanian Federation of Psychotherapy, of the European Association of Psychotherapy, as well as that of the College of Psychologists of Romania, specifies that “all information that becomes known to the psychotherapist as a result of the psychotherapeutic relationship” is subject to confidentiality. This means that all personal data disclosed by the client during psychotherapy sessions, personal development, or during any in-person or online consultations are kept confidential by the requirements of current Romanian and European legislation.

Personal information collected during in-person or online psychology sessions is not disclosed to other third parties, unless you expressly request or request it.

According to Art. VI. pt. 2 of the Code of Ethics and Deontology of the Psychologist Profession in Romania provides that the following situations are exceptions to the confidentiality rule in which the breach of confidentiality is necessary (not “permitted”, but “necessary”):

  • For the protection of public health
  • For the prevention of an imminent danger
  • For the prevention of the commission of a criminal act, or the prevention of the occurrence of the result of such an act, or the removal of the harmful consequences of such an act

The following situations do not constitute breaches of confidentiality:

  • Sharing information obtained within the psychotherapeutic relationship with a third party, for supervision, in the interest of the client
  • Sharing with the public, for scientific communication or case presentation

In the two cases above, all personal data that may lead to the identification of the client is eliminated. If it is essential to communicate data that may lead to the identification of the client, the psychotherapist will ask the client’s permission in advance.
